In preparation for Eid, people in Bangladesh will be out busily shopping for the new clothes they will wear, for small gifts to exchange with friends and family, and food items for the Eid ul-Fitr feast.

Those living in the cities often travel back to their birth village for Eid ul-Fitr where they can spend it with family. Early on Eid morning, people attend a special mosque service for Eid prayers.

More unique Eid-ul-Fitr traditions of Bangladesh include: women making colourful designs on their hands with pigments derived from hena leaves, going to the graves of deceased relatives to pray for them, and eating Semai, a kind of “sweet coconut noodle” just after returning from Eid prayers.
