It is said that Ibrahim was about to sacrifice his son Ishmael in accord with a command from Allah but that Allah stopped him at the last minute. Muslims celebrate the willingness of Ibrahim to make the sacrifice, and they make their own blood sacrifices of goats, sheep, or other livestock.

In the capital city of Dhaka, when it rains heavily on Eid ul-Adha, the streets can run red with rivers of blood as rain water mixes with the blood of thousands of sacrificed animals.

Early in the morning on Eid ul-Adha, people attend a major prayer session. The largest one in the country is held in Dhaka and is attended by the president of Bangladesh. After prayers, everyone returns home to feast and celebrate.
